Mahfud Md: Most Regions Agree to Hold 2020 Pilkada in December

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md claimed that nearly all regional administrations agreed to hold the 2020 Regional Head Election or Pilkada in December.

“Based on our monitoring, almost all regional heads agree. Only one or two express their disagreement. That’s normal,” said Mahfud in a statement on Thursday, June 11.

Mahfud ensured that the 2020 Pilkada will be held in December and cannot be postponed again. 

“If we are waiting for the coronavirus [outbreak] to end, no one knows that. While the government must work effectively,” he underlined, adding that a region must be helmed by a definitive leader.

If the regional head election is delayed, Mahfud Md continued, many local administrations will be led by acting heads, and it is feared that they cannot take certain steps for daily governmental tasks.
