TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police asserted that it will comply with the instructions of Luhut Pandjaitan, who is the Ad Interim Transportation Minister, that online-based motorcycle or online ojek is allowed to carry passengers during the large-scale social restrictions or PSBB in Jakarta.

“I will follow what’s issued by the Transportation Ministry’s spokesman that online ojek is allowed to carry passengers,” said Jakarta Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo at his office, Sunday, April 12.

Sambodo did not deny that there was a dualism of regulations related to the online motorcycle taxis operation during the strict physical distancing aimed at curbing the coronavirus (COVID-19) spread. In Article 11, they are only permitted to transport goods.

Jakarta Metro Police will immediately coordinate with the city’s Transportation Agency and related stakeholders regarding the rules adjustment, he added.

“We will discuss this with the Transportation Agency to have suitable measures with the relevant agencies, especially for the rule implementation in Jakarta,” Sambodo said.

Previously, online ojek was not allowed to carry passengers during the social restrictions on a large scale in the capital imposed by Governor Anies Baswedan starting April 10. Therefore, Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Nana Sudjana announced the ban in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19.
