TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was set to distribute free face masks in an effort to prevent the coronavirus infection from spreading further in the capital.
Anies said the mask will be dispensed through sub-district offices.
“We have prepared the masks to be later distributed for free,” said Anies during an online press conference at City Hall, Tuesday, March 31.
Anies said the provincial administration was preparing the supply of masks to meet the public needs. Regional-owned markets operator PD Pasar Jaya had been ordered to provide the supply, he added.
The governor expected more Jakartans to wear face masks in a bid to prevent them from getting infected by the virus that caused COVID-19. “We want more people using masks,” he remarked.
As of March 31, Jakarta has 741 positive cases of COVID-19 with 49 of them have been recovered, while the fatalities reached 84 cases.
Previously, Jakarta administration through PD Pasar Jaya intervened in the markets to stabilize the price of masks, resulting in the purchase of one million pieces of masks worth Rp124,000 per box, each having 50 pieces.
