TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Secretary-General of the House of Representatives (DPR) , Indra Iskandar, clarified that the thick smoke filling the DPR Building, precisely the Nusantara III building, was not caused by a fire, but rather a malfunction of the aerosol fire extinguishing system.

“In the corridor of the second floor, the aerosol fire extinguishing system was functioning for no particular reason,” said Indra during a press conference at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, February 24.

Indra explained that the building operator installed the system on the second floor of the Nusantara III building, which was sensitive to fire.

The firefighter team was examining what caused the system to work and produce black, thick smoke. “It is clear and clean now. There was no damage, no victim,” Indra added.

As reported earlier, thick smoke began to spew from the second floor of the DPR building at 11:40 a.m. and reached the eighth floor. Reporters covering several events in Nusantara IV and V buildings even heard the alarm of the Nusantara III building went off.
