TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Sudebjo, said that a number of flooded areas in the capital can only be drained by using pumps to channel the water surrounding people's houses.

"The problem is [the flooded areas] located in low ground. So can only rely on suction," Subedjo said on Saturday, January 4, 2020.

Based on Jakarta BPBD data, until Saturday, January 4, 2020, 12 districts are still flooded. Most of the flooded districts are located in West Jakarta. In West Jakarta, six districts are still flooded while in East Jakarta, three districts are still flooded. In North Jakarta, two districts are still flooded, and one district in South Jakarta is still flooded.

One of the flooded areas is the Duri Kosambi sub-district and Semanan in West Jakarta. Subedjo said that water draining continues to be carried out.

"There is stationary pump and mobile pump in the area to channel water to the river. If the water remains high, we will try to wait for a while," Subedjo.

Subedjo predicted that the water will drain out on Sunday, January 5, 2020, of there is no further rain.
