Monas Blast; Jakarta Police Chief to Hold Press Conference

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono and Pangdam Jaya Military Commander Maj. Gen. Eko Margiyono are scheduled to hold a press conference soon. They will speak about the explosion in Monas, Central Jakarta that happened this morning, December 3.

"The Regional Military Commander and the Regional Police will release their statements," Jakarta Metro Police's PR chief, Comr. Yusri Yunus, said confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Just a few hours ago, something exploded in the Monas area, at a time when people would do their morning run and exercise in the complex. So far, the authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

The police have cleared out areas and closed roads around the National Monument (Monas) area and the area around the State palace.

The police have also mobilized a team to investigate the cause of the Monas explosion. Two people were reported to have suffered severe and minor injuries from the explosion.
