TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta’s Lebaran Betawi festival had just been held on May 20 to May 21, 2023, at the National Monument or Monas area after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Betawi community leaders thanked Jakarta Provincial Government for supporting the annual festival. “We are grateful that the event attended by Betawi figures such as Fauzi Bowo went smoothly. We are grateful for the facilities supported by the Provincial Government,” said the chairman of the Betawi Cultural Institute (LKB), Beky Mardani, in his statement, quoted on Monday, May 22, 2023.
Beky explained that the provincial government provided tents, entertainment shows, and promotions, as well as broadcast the event live through Jakarta's official channel.
He hoped that the collaboration between the local government and the Betawi people would continue to be harmonious and that the event could become Jakarta’s official agenda.
Moreover, Jakarta will no longer be a capital special region after the establishment of IKN in East Kalimantan as the new capital city. So Jakarta must immediately strengthen the culture of its core community, which is Betawi, so as to not lose its way and own cultural identity.
“Hopefully, this Lebaran Betawi 2023 festival can be a momentum for us to strengthen Jakarta's core community, Betawi. So that in the future we will no longer stutter when the capital city actually moves,” Beky pinned hopes.
