TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono said that the city will resume the Monas revitalization program, which was started during the era of former governor Anies Baswedan.
"That's a result of a competition, so I will continue it," Heru said at the child-friendly integrated public space (RPTRA) Kecapi in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta on Friday, April 14, 2023.
The Provincial Government planned to revitalize Monas with a green concept, such as planting 300 new trees in the cultural heritage area. Supporting facilities, such as an amphitheater for public gathering spaces, will also be constructed.
This revitalization concept is different from that in Anies' era, particularly the construction of Plaza Selatan Monas. At that time, the city administration had to cut down hundreds of trees to make space for the plaza.
Heru said he would seek advice from the Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Ministry for the arrangement of green areas at Monas. Heru ensured that there will be no changes in the southern area which had been laid with concrete during Anes Baswedan's leadership. The city administration will just expand the green area by increasing the number of trees.
The revitalization, however, is still waiting for the order of the State Secretary Ministry as the owner of the land.
The budget for the revitalization of the Monas, Heru Budi added, comes from the Jakarta Provincial Government, the SOE Ministry, the Transportation Ministry, the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) which will be involved in revitalizing the Monas area near Gambir Station.
