TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute (YLBHI), Asfinawati, deemed that the police report filed by PDIP Party member Dewi Tanjung against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan is baseless and dubious.

Recent reports saw Dewi reporting Novel Baswedan to the police after the PDIP politician accused Novel of staging his own attack. The attack she referred to is the acid attack in April 2017 against Novel, which has caused his eyes to be permanently damaged.

“The police report is dubious. How could a police chief and the President commit to solving the attack and investigate the issue if it was staged,” said Asfinawati on Thursday, November 7.

The YLBHI head then suspected that the police report has to do with the rising concern towards the weakening of the KPK. Asfi reminded that the PDIP Party member is one of those who supported the revision against KPK’s legal standing.

“Her report is only to steer the public’s opinion and to reduce the support for Novel and the KPK,” said the YLBHI Head.
