TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police apprehended a total of 649 people who were suspected as rioters during the demonstration at DPR-MPR building, Central Jakarta on September 30.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo explained it in detail that Jakarta Metro Police nabbed some 380 protesters, North Jakarta Resort Police nabbed 36 people, Central Jakarta Resort Police nabbed 63 people, and West Jakarta Resort Police nabbed 170 people.

“We are still questioning them,” said Dedi in his office, South Jakarta, Tuesday, October 1.

Dedi reiterated that the pattern of last night’s rally-turned-riot was similar to that of May 21-22. “The protest was not purely staged by students. They attacked security officers and burned public facilities down.”

The massive protest against the newly-passed KPK Law, Criminal Code draft bill, and other problematic draft bills on Monday, September 30 around the DPR-MPR Building turned into chaos starting in the evening until early Tuesday, October 1.
