TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) has officially dropped the cybersecurity draft bill (RUU KKS) today, September 27.

The Head of the Special Committee for RUU KKS, Bambang Wuryanto, said the draft legislation was scrapped and could not be resumed in the next period because the mechanism of the lawmaking process could not be fulfilled.

“We cannot carry over the bill, so [the discussions] will start from the beginning,” said Bambang at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Friday, September 27.

The government and the parliament held a meeting today to discuss the draft bill. The government’s representatives included the Law and Human Rights Minister, the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister, and the Communication and Information Minister.

However, none of the ministers were present at the meeting as they had to attend a coordination meeting with President Joko Widodo.

"The government is holding a consolidation meeting with all Cabinet members. That means there is something urgent that we must understand," Bambang said. "We don’t know the urgency. Just ask the President."

House speaker Bambang Soesatyo also ensured that the cybersecurity draft bill would not be passed into law at the Plenary Meetingm which was slated to take place on Monday, September 30. He said the meeting agenda would be the closing ceremony of the DPR period and his farewell speech.
