TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said 54 out of 94 students apprehended during protests before the DPR building, Tuesday, September 24 were transferred to their universities.

“We return them to their universities for a coaching program,” said Argo in Jakarta Police Headquarters, Thursday, September 26.

Argo said those 54 students hailed from Buana Perjuangan University and Singaperbangsa University, Karawang, and were escorted by the Resort Police to their campuses.

Meanwhile, the remaining 38 students are still undergoing police examination. He could not confirm yet whether those protesters would be prosecuted or not. “We will carry out more examination,” Argo added.

The demonstrations staged by students from numerous universities before the DPR building last Tuesday demanded delay of several bills ratification including revisions of Criminal Code Law (RKUHP), Law on Correctional System, and Law on Lands.

The mass also urged President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo issue a president regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) to annul the amended KPK Law. The newly-ratified law was considered an attempt to clip the anti-graft body’s wings.

The students' protests ended in chaos in the afternoon until midnight. Based on police data, 39 officers and 254 students sustained injuries.
