TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Esteemed Indonesian film director Joko Anwar created an online petition in support for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) via Change.org. The Gundala movie director also announced the petition on his Twitter account on Tuesday, September 17.

“I thank you all for signing the petition in support of the KPK,” he tweeted today, September 17.

Mentioned in the petition the calamity that faces the country’s future after the House of Representatives (DPR).

Joko Anwar maintained the dangers of passing the KPK Law revision will range from limited wiretapping abilities, KPK employees’ status, up to the supervisory board monitoring over the shoulders of the anti-graft agency.

He said that the law will castrate KPK’s authority; “The government and the House are working together to turn the KPK into an institution to prevent corruption, it will no longer eradicate corruption as the agency’s ability to capture high-stakes corruptors will be annulled.”

However, Joko admitted that many cynical comments about KPK, saying that the anti-graft institution considers themselves as 'God'. He asserted that keeping tabs of the KPK can be done from other ways such as the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).

The movie director reminded that once the KPK Law revision gets passed, KPK will be kept under control of the Supervisory Board that has its members picked by the House of Representatives (DPR), even though the KPK often nabs suspects from the House.
