TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Independent Power Producers (IPP) joined under the Indonesian Private Electricity Plants Association (APLSI) announced that it is set to assist the state-owned electricity company PLN to fulfill the electricity needs of the new capital city in East Kalimantan.

“Our IPPs has plenty of experience working in partnership with the PLN. There will be no issue, we will help if needed,” said APLSI executive director Rizal Calvary Marimbo in an official statement on Tuesday, August 27.

According to Rizal, the association is also pushing for the use of renewable energy at the new capital city. The electricity supply in Kalimantan currently sits at 331.5 MW and in the next two years, the IPP will supply the PLN electricity network up to 800 MW from two power plants.

The official plan is to produce a total of 4,324.8 MW up to the year 2028 as the new capital city is predicted to consume up to 2,000 MW, says Rizal who maintains that electrical supply will be sufficient as it can be produced by coal or oil and gas.
