TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The major blackout that paralyzed Jakarta, West Java, and Banten on Sunday, August 4, resulted in a class-action lawsuit submitted by the Indonesian Young Advocates Forum (FAMI) at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday, August 7.

"We come to South Jakarta District Court to file a class-action lawsuit," FAMI Secretary-General Saiful Anam said at the court on Wednesday.

FAMI reported four parties, namely state electricity firm PLN, the President, the Ministry of State-owned Enterprise (SOE), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The organization demands compensation from the defendants amounted to Rp313 trillion, Rp213 trillion of material losses and Rp100 trillion of immaterial losses, on a consideration that PLN admitted to having beset 21.3 million people.

"We think that's a very small [compensation]," Saiful added.

FAMI also demands defendants issue an apology to all people affected by the outage. Besides, the president is urged to conduct a comprehensive audit to PLN, reform the management of the two ministries, and appoint an independent forum or institution to distribute the compensation to all PLN customers.
