TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The drought in Tangerang District is starting to affect the farms that are in the region. As of now, there are 668 hectares of productive lands that could face massive crop failures.

Head of Tangerang District’s Agricultural and Food Security Agency Azis Gunawan said that the farmlands have varying degrees of draught with 330 hectares experiencing light drought, 328 hectares medium drought, and 10 hectares under severe drought.

“The current condition is that the hundreds of hectares of land could face crop failure,” said Azis to Tempo on Wednesday, July 31.

The farmlands affected by the weather are located long sub-districts of Mauk, Kemiri, Kronjo, and Pakuhaji.

The region’s mitigation team has commenced several attempts to control the water sources from an irrigation channel that is also experiencing the effects of drought.

“Using the pump is difficult as it is hard to look for the closest source of water. We need kilometers of [irrigation channel] since the one that exists now is all dried up and cannot reach the farmlands,” said Azis.
