TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - As many as 11 districts of Tangerang Regency are facing clean water crisis following drought in this long dry season. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) previously predicted the peak of the dry season would occur in August.
“We receive reports that those districts ask for clean water assistance,” said the head of Tangerang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Agus Suryana to Tempo, Tuesday, July 23.
Agus stopped short of detailing the drought points, yet villages that requested clean water supply are from districts of Tigaraksa, Legok, Curug, Jambe, Panongan, Jayanti, Teluknaga, Kosambi, Sindang Jaya, Kronjo, and Mauk. Each village head submitted a request letter to the BPBD following the drop in well water discharge.
Agus mentioned the crisis occurred since the past two weeks. Agricultural lands in the northern area of Tangerang, such as Mauk, Pakuhaji, Kresek, and Gunung Kaler are also facing water shortages. “Some 400 hectares of land hit by drought.”
