TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) announced it may possibly reopen the criminal case incriminating Rizieq Shihab if the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) figure returns to Indonesia.
“It will depend on the investigators if it is possible then they will explore the possibilities,” said Polri spokesman Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, July 10.
However, Dedi maintains that police are not involved, nor will they have anything to do with Rizieq’s return. He asserts that police will only handle the legal case that incriminates the controversial figure.
“His return is not related to the Indonesian National Police,” said Dedi.
Faint talks about Rizieq Shihab’s possible return were first mentioned by Dahnil Anzar, former Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno campaign team spokesman. He once mentioned the topic as a domestic political reconciliation requirement between the country’s incumbent and the opposition party.
Dahnil’s suggestion was met with pessimism from the Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko while FPI legal aid leader Sugito Atmo Prawiro claims that Rizieq’s criminal case does not exist anymore as Police have issued investigation termination warrant (SP3).
