TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 212 Alumni Group (PA 212) Secretary Bernard Abdul Jabar claims the Saudi Arabia government has prevented Rizieq Shihab from returning to Indonesia.
“He couldn’t come home yet since the Saudi government is still blocking his return,” said Bernard on Wednesday, July 10, who did not elaborate the specific reason behind it.
Moreover, Bernard said that Rizieq’s lack of homecoming should not be linked to the reconciliation between president-elect Jokowi and former competitor in the presidential race, Prabowo Subianto.
The talks of Rizieq’s return as the requirement for the reconciliation was first mentioned by the former member of Prabowo’s campaign team BPN.
His suggestion was met with signs of rejection after Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko quipped that Rizieq should return to Indonesia on his own as he was never ousted by the Indonesian government.
“Return home on your own. I’ll buy you the flight ticket myself if you don’t,” Moeldoko said on Tuesday, July 9.
Bernard asserts that Rizieq’s prolonged stay in Saudi Arabia has no connections with the domestic political reconciliation plan.
