TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian has appealed to the public to refrain from returning to Jakarta on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, so as to avert the traffic of the Eid return exodus this year.
“If all travelers return on Saturday, or Sunday, it will be the peak of the Eid rush,” Tito said at the National Police headquarters on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.
Tito advised people to return on Friday, June 7, or Monday or Tuesday next week. “If you already took leave, please proceed until Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday,” he said.

Tito explained traffic gridlock was likely to occur during the Eid return exodus rather than the homecoming rush. This was because travelers had more time for departure as opposed to the remaining days left for returning, viz. from Friday to Sunday.
Tito also called on travelers to keep an eye on traffic conditions during the return rush via mass media or smartphone applications.
“If there is immense density of traffic on Saturday, Sunday, please don’t force yourselves [to return],” he said.
