Anies Baswedan: 347 Injured in May 22 Riot

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that based on data collected by the city’s Health Agency, a total of 347 people sustained injuries due to the riot on May 22.

“As of 8 p.m. tonight, 347 people fall victim; 271 of them are still being diagnosed, 21 lightly injured, 16 severely injured, 33 non-trauma, and six have died,” he said in Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, May 22.

The victims, according to the governor, are treated in different hospitals including Pelni (78 people), Abdi Waluyo (2), Tarakan (122), Mintoharjo (2), Budi Kemuliaan (84), Tanah Abang (28, RSCM (6), and Health Agency Posts (25).

“Three victims come from outside Jakarta. We cannot reveal the name until we are sure their families acknowledge the situation,” said Anies Baswedan.

The clash between the mob and the police continued to rise throughout Wednesday, May 22. Based on Tempo observation in Tarakan Hospital, victims were brought in since 18:00 Jakarta time mostly caused by tear gas.

Meanwhile, National Police Kramat Jati Hospital conducted an autopsy for three dead victims on late Wednesday. The hospital’s Head of Forensic Medicine Installation Sr. Comr. Edi Purnomo said the victims were brought in from Pelni and Mintohardjo hospital. However, he was reluctant to reveal the result and victims’ identities.
