TEMPO.CO, Solo - State electricity company PLN has predicted that the power consumption during the month of Ramadan will rise 5 percent compared to other days, due to an increase in industrial activities and household electricity consumption.

"Power consumption usually falls by up to 20 percent post the Eid al-Fitr day. In 2018, it dropped by up to 23 percent," PLN manager for customer service unit in Surakarta city said on Saturday as quoted by Antara, May 11.

As of May 8, PLN held power reserves of 1,401 megawatts. During the day, the power reserves increased to 1,999 megawatts.

Power consumption usually increases at night when Muslims across the country perform Tarawih night prayers and eat their pre-dawn meal.

He said PLN is committed to providing the best services to subscribers in and around Solo during the Islamic fasting month.

"This Ramadan, we have set up Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr standby teams divided into 19 command posts. The teams will employ 70 personnel and work round the clock," he said.

Meanwhile, six teams comprising 60 personnel will be tasked with attending networks, he added. "The fleet will also have access to PDKB cars, technological service cars, cranes and motorcycles to provide better and quicker services," he said.
