TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The non-active president director of state-owned electricity company PLN, Sofyan Basir, is scheduled to undergo examination by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) today, May 6, as a suspect in the PLTU Riau-1 graft case.

“He will be examined as a suspect,” said the KPK spokesperson, Yuyuk Andriati, on Monday, May 6.

This examination will be the first to be held since the anti-graft body named Sofyan Basir suspect on April 23, 2019. Sofyan allegedly helped the DPR’s energy commission deputy head, Eni Maulani Saragih, to obtain bribery from the shareholder of Blackgold Natural Resources Ltd, Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo.

In addition, KPK suspected Sofyan of receiving a gift that was equal to what Eni received.

The graft case emerged from the agency’s sting operation against Eni and Kotjo on July 13, 2018. Eni was allegedly received Rp4.75 billion from Kotjo to help the latter obtain the plant power project.

The former politician of the Golkar party’s main role was to connect Kotjo and Sofyan. In this case, she was proved to facilitate nine meetings between the two.

In several occasions, Sofyan denied his involvement in the graft case of PLTU Riau-1. The lawyer Soesilo Aribowo said that his client would be cooperative during the legal proceedings.

Other than Sofyan Basir, the KPK will question six witnesses for the suspect; PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali Investasi (PJBI) Corporate Secretary Lusiana Ester, ITB lecturer Syafrizal, PT Samantaka Batubara Office Boy Erry Yudhamiharja, PT Samantaka Batubara Security Fredrik Lanitaman, and two private parties Jumadi and Lukman Hakim.
