Fire in Tanah Abang Market; Traffic to Block C Closed

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police and the Central Jakarta Transportation Office have shut down the road to Tanah Abang Market`s Block C. Civilian vehicles are banned from going on the road after fire broke at the market.

The Metro Jaya Police on Monday said that the traffic is closed to give way for firefighters.

Tanah Abang's Block C has been engulfed in fire since shortyl after 7:00 a.m. this morning, as first reported by @bpbddkijakarta.

The for brigade has dispatched at least 14 fire trucks to the location. The police, PLN officers, as well as other forces are also helping to put out the fire.

Tanah Abang Market is one of the centers of Indonesia's textile industries. The last time the market had a major fire incident was in 2003.
