Fire Hits Tanah Abang Market Block C

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A fire broke out in BLock C of Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta today morning, April 22, at 07:10 local times. The incident was first reported by the Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) via its Twitter @bpbddkijakarta.

As many as 14 units of fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the blaze with helps from officers of the electricity firm PLN, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), the Emergency Ambulance Service (AGD), Jakarta Transportation Agency, Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the emergency response unit Forum Tagana, police, and armed forces (TNI).

Tanah Abang Market is one of the country’s biggest textile centers that has been well known by international traders, including from Africa. The most severe fire hit the market occurred in 2003.

No immediate report on the victims or damages due to the fire breakout thus far.
