Police Examine Freeport Mine Accident That Kills Two

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mimika Resort Police are teaming up with Papua Regional Police to examine an incident in the mining area of Freeport Indonesia, Tembagapura that killed two workers last week.
The Mimika Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Agung Marlianto in Timika, Wednesday, April 10, said that the investigation involved the mining company and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ (ESDM) mining inspection team.
“The team is currently investigating in Tembagapura to reveal the cause of the accident in Freeport mining area last week,” said Agung.

Two workers of PT Freeport Indonesia were found dead on Saturday, April 6, after buried in a landslide while repairing damaged feeders in the underground mining pit Ore Bin 6, ore transport lane, Mile 74, Tembagapura. The dead victims named Taufiq Adnin Rasyad (40) and Kawi Yanto Waroy (24), while the other two namely Meksy Kemuan and Yohanis Yoku succeeded to survive.
PT Freeport Indonesia spokesman, Riza Pratama, said that the company has done an internal investigation. “We have started an internal investigation and reported to the Mining Inspector,” Riza added.
Freeport management continued to remind all employees to maintain safety and step up alertness in the workplace.
