TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two men were sentenced to life in prison at the Bekasi District Court yesterday, March 13. The defendants have proven guilty of circulating ecstasy pills.

Andang Anggara (27) and Sonny Sasmita (41) were also ordered to pay to a fine of Rp1 billion, substitutable with six additional months in prison.

The verdict is lighter than what the public prosecutors demands. The defendants were initially indicted with death sentence.

Andang and Sonny were proven to have masterminded the shipping of 600,000 ecstasy pills through Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang. They managed to organize the crime despite being inmates at the Solo Prison and Bogor Penitentiary.
