1. Entrepreneurs Association: Hamas-Israel War Will Affect Indonesia's Economy

The Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (Apindo) said that Hamas' war with Israel would have an impact on the domestic economy, especially industrial conditions. Apindo's head of the Manufacturing Industry, Bobby Gafur Umar, said that a war in the Middle East would affect the business climate in Indonesia, especially in the energy sector.

The impact, he said, is already seen from the increasing prices of energy. As a result, there will be an increase in the price of raw materials because not everything can be produced in Indonesia.

2. Indonesia to Restrict Entry of Imported Goods

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan stated that the government is set to tighten entry of imported goods to Indonesia. He mentioned that the Indonesian government will implement border inspection as opposed to the initial post-border inspection.

"The government is regulating [the import flow], to prevent a flood of imported goods," he said when met in Jakarta today, October 10. "The MSMEs will lose if that happens."

The inspection of prohibited imported goods or Lartas at the border will be conducted by Customs officers. Meanwhile, the post-border inspection is conducted against distributed goods by relevant agencies and the ministry.

3. Jokowi Gathers Ministers for Talks on Drug Handling

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi gathered ministers and heads of institutions to discuss drug handling at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, October 12, 2023. The meeting was held behind closed doors.  

Among those present were Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara, Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono, Immigration Director-General Silmy Karim, Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, Deputy Attorney General Sunarta, and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md.
