TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan stated that the government is set to tighten entry of imported goods to Indonesia. He mentioned that the Indonesian government will implement border inspection as opposed to the initial post-border inspection.
"The government is regulating [the import flow], to prevent a flood of imported goods," he said when met in Jakarta today, October 10. "The MSMEs will lose if that happens."
The inspection of prohibited imported goods or Lartas at the border will be conducted by Customs officers. Meanwhile, the post-border inspection is conducted against distributed goods by relevant agencies and the ministry.
The Indonesian government will release the regulation containing lists of goods with restricted import. These goods are toys, electronic goods, shoes, cosmetics, textiles, traditional medicine, clothes and accessories, and bags.
On the other hand, the authority will also provide a positive list of goods allowed to be imported directly to Indonesia. The positive list is provided in the Trade Minister Regulation No. 31 of 2023 on electronic commerce.
Additionally, the government will strengthen border inspection to provide steadfast service-level agreement and response to avoid more dwelling time. Dwelling time is defined as the total time a container spends in one or more terminal stacks.
