Ministry Announces Aviation Security Protocol on Firearms

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry reminded airplane passengers to adhere to existing regulations, especially those overseeing firearms and the means of safekeeping such items.
The ministry’s director general for air transportation, Polana B. Pramesti, announced that passengers intent on bringing firearms with ammunition must report to aviation security (avsec) personnel, who would then report to check-in personnel.

“[Airplane] passengers carrying firearms and ammunition must hand them over to check-in personnel accompanied by aviation security personnel,” said Polana in a written statement on Monday, February 25.
Only firearm owners with proper permits can undergo the process of notifying airport officials before continuing their flights.

The firearms will then be checked-in under the security item category while the bullets as dangerous goods. The firearms and the bullets must be handed separately.
These procedures are in compliance with the Transportation Ministry’s Regulation No.80/2017 on the national aviation security program.
