TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry targets the operation of Dhoho International Airport in Kediri next month.
"We are hoping [the airport will operate in February]. Once again, it depends on the airlines," said ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati when met on Thursday.
Adita explained that the Dhoho Airport is ready to operate, but still awaits the airlines. "The airline is still in the preparation stage. They need to consider the fare, the routes," she explained.
Secretary-General of Transportation Ministry Novie Riyanto on Wednesday said that the private airline Super Air Jet will become the first to operate in Dhoho Airport in Kediri.
In early December, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi revealed that the Dhoho Airport was still in the calibration stage and would be inaugurated in January or February.
The Dhoho International Airport itself has a 3,300-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway, ready to receive landing of various aircraft. Those include Umrah and Hajj pilgrimage flights.
The subsidiary of cigarette producer PT Gudang Garam, PT Suryo Dhoho Investama has invested around Rp13 trillion to develop the Dhoho Airport. The development project was Indonesia's first unsolicited public-private partnership.
