TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said his side started to carry out ramp check as a safety inspection on a number of transportation modes in welcoming the 2024 Eid homecoming period.
"The Ministry of Transportation has carried out safety inspections such as ramp checks on land, sea, air, and rail transportation facilities," Sumadi said in a virtual press conference monitored on Sunday.
According to him, the ministry will continue to educate the public on transportation regulation and policies during the Eid homecoming period.
He explained that his side pays attention to safety, as it is projected that 71.7 percent of Indonesia's population will travel during the Eid homecoming season.
To that end, safety inspections such as ramp check is an important effort in ensuring travel security.
Sumadi also asked his staff and related stakeholders, including in the tourism sector, to do carry out ramp checks to avoid unwanted things.
"Also also carry out ramp check on tourism (buses) because usually the drivers do not have qualifications and the buses left unchecked," he explained.
Meanwhile, the ministry's Director General of Land Transportation Hendro Sugiatno said that his side set a target to conduct ramp check on 15,000 vehicles. This activity takes place from February 21 to March 31, 2024.
The number of vehicles that will be checked will also increase, he said.
"The ramp check is carried out at A-type terminals from Palembang in South Sumatra to Badung in Bali. As the process is still ongoing, it (the number) is not certain," he said.
The Transportation Ministry also estimated that there will be congestion on the Cipali Toll Road during the 2024 Eid homecoming period.
