Joint Police Task Force Formed to Solve Novel Baswedan Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) main headquarters confirmed the news on the formation of a joint task force that will handle the investigation of the acid attack against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.

"It is confirmed that the National Police Chief issued an assignment letter to follow up the Novel Baswedan case," said Polri Spokesman Insp. Gen. Muhammad Iqbal at his office on Friday, January 11, 2019.

Iqbal explained that it is a response to the recommendation issued on December last year by the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

The task force itself will comprise of 65 members from the KPK, Polri main HQ, and chosen public figures and experts. This team will report directly to National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian.

Several known names are listed in the team such as; Indriyanto Seno Adji (former KPK deputy and University of Indonesia professor); Hermayan Sulistyo (academic); Hendardi (SETARA Institute); Poengky Indarti (former IMPARSIAL Executive Director); and Ifdhal Kasim from Komnas HAM.
