Police Task Force Born to Handle PSSI Match-Fixing Suspicion

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesman of the Indonesian National Police Headquarters, General Dedi Prasetyo, announced that National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian will personally lead the team tasked to monitor the country’s match-fixing controversy currently surrounding the Football Association of Indonesia or PSSI.

This dedicated team will be tasked to closely monitor the 2019 Liga 1 season which will be introduced around April next year.

“The task force will be controlled directly under the police chief himself. He will personally choose team members and the qualifications needed in the field of criminal investigations,” said Dedi at the national police main headquarters in South Jakarta today. Dec. 20.

The task force will comprise several sub-teams that will determine whether a match is factually being fixed before it undergoes police’s investigation. “The sub investigation will determine the charge would be presented, whether it be fraud, blackmailing, or gambling,” said Dedi.

Previously, Madura FC manager Januar Herwanto publically confessed that he was once involved in a potential match-fixing after being offered a large sum of money by PSSI executive committee Hidayat to have Januar’s football team lose to a match against PSS Sleman in the Liga 2.
