TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-run airport operators Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II are set to expand its business by aiming overseas projects.

After Angkasa Pura II’s incorporation in a joint venture company, the company is now entering an auction upon managing the Clark International Airport located near Manila, Philippines. The airport is known to hold a capacity of 2 million passengers each year.

“Our consideration is that the business must follow the traffic and activities of passengers,” said Angkasa Pura II public relation manager Yado Yarismano to Tempo yesterday, Dec. 17.

The Clark International Airport is predicted to generate up to Rp15 trillion from terminal increase and management with a concession calculation of 25 years. Yado also said that the company is studying its chances to expand the business to Thailand.

Meanwhile, Angkasa Pura I director of development Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo said that his company is interested in the U-Tapao International Airport located roughly 90 miles Southeast of Bangkok, Thailand.

The expansion of both Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II confirms that the state-run companies are seriously considering to profit from foreign projects. However, Angkasa Pura I Vice President Corporate Secretary Handy Heryudhitiawan maintained that domestic projects are still high on their priority list.
