TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II recorded a 30 percent increase in passenger movements last year. Throughout 2023, the total number of passengers at the 20 airports it manages reached 80.14 million, exceeding the year's target of 73.3 million passengers by 9 percent.
"The number of passengers throughout 2023 will skyrocket by 30 percent compared to 2022's 61.99 million passengers," AP II Sr. VP of Corporate Secretary Deni Krisnowibowo said in a written statement, on Wednesday, January 17.
Deni said that the number of passengers in 2023 reflects a recovery rate of 88 percent from pre-pandemic levels or in 2019 when the total number of passengers stood at 90.76 million.
The 20 airports AP II managed also recorded 599,699 aircraft traffic, an increase of 19 percent. According to Deni, flight traffic at PT Angkasa Pura II airport in 2023 exceeded the target, showing the company's success in encouraging the optimization of flight slot times to accommodate the high demand for air travel after the pandemic.
This achievement, Deni added, reflects the ability of AP II and its stakeholders to push for the optimization of slot time through the reopening of routes that were closed during the pandemic, opening new routes, and increasing flight frequency on existing routes.
Throughout 2023, AP II's busiest airports in terms of the number of passengers were Soekarno-Hatta in Tangerang (50.96 million passengers); Kualanamu in Deli Serdang (7.39 million passengers); Halim Perdanakusuma in Jakarta (3.79 million passengers); Sultan Syarif Kasim II in Pekanbaru (2.76 million passengers); and Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II in Palembang (2.75 million passengers).
"The number of passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in 2023 rose by around 21 percent compared to 2022," Deni said.
