Jakarta Police Uncover Same-Sex Online Prostitution Business

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Port of Tanjung Priok police uncovered a same-sex online prostitution scheme that was known to be managed by a man with the initials of ZM or Kurtubi.
“The suspect acted as a pimp and a massage therapist,” said Adj. Commissioner Faruk Rozi, Head of port of Tanjung Priok’s criminal investigation unit on Tuesday, October 2.
According to Faruk, Kurtubi recruited several men to become therapists for male customers through Instagram. The use of social media as his recruitment tool drove police to go undercover as a potential client, which was responded by the suspect’s Instagram account.

After closing the deal regarding the value of the transaction, the suspect then sent a massage therapist to the undercover police. This resulted in the arrest of Kurtubi who was apprehended in North Jakarta’s Pluit area on Monday, October 1.
Online prostitution is deemed illegal by Indonesian law and threatens perpetrators with a maximum of 15 years imprisonment that is regulated under Article 2 of Law No 21/2017 on the eradication of human trafficking.
