TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One of many Jakarta’s attractions is its beaches, such as the urban-setting Ancol and the more natural ones in Thousand Islands. Those places have been recorded to attract both domestic and foreign tourists.
Most of Jakartans will not think twice before going on a mini trip to the aforementioned Jakarta’s coastal areas to escape their daily routines in city. Enjoying the beach can be as simple as rolling out a picnic matt or do usual vacation activities with friends and families.
However, there are many more to explore in alternative locations throughout Jakarta’s beaches as Tempo have compiled for you.
1. Camping at the Dolphin Island
The Dolphin Island is considered to be a micro-uninhabited island that houses a pretty broad beach where visitors have recently started to set up camp. The atmosphere resembles an untouchable island located deep in a rural area once you set camp there, despite the fact that it is a stone's throw away from Jakarta.
You can reach Dolphin Island by renting fisherman boats from Harapan Island for Rp200,000-Rp300,000 for a single boat, although the price depends on your skill in negotiating prices. Furthermore, reaching Harapan Island can be done from Muara Angke Port on a short boat ride for Rp50,000.
2. Exploring the Sunda Kelapa Harbor on Fishermen Boats
Not many people might know that you can rent a small fishing boat to paddle through the Sunda Kelapa coastlines, which can expose you to different side of Jakarta. However, if riding on a small fish boat around the harbor’s congested sailing route is not your cup of tea, you can just board the massive ships that are often docked at the Sunda Kelapa Harbor.
3. Enjoying the Seashore with a Gondola
You can enjoy Jakarta’s coastline view while multiple waves ripple underneath you with the gondola in Ancol. It may be a unique experience doing this at a height. The prices to rent Ancol's gondola is around Rp50,000 per person.
