TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Recent reports suggest that the electability of Gerindra Party’s Prabowo Subianto in West Java had lost from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“Based on the presidential candidacy poll in West Java, Jokowi succeeded in earning 33.6 percent electability. Meanwhile, Prabowo’s electability was 22.8 percent,” said Indo Barometer Executive Director M. Qodari in Jakarta yesterday.
The West Java voters was a goldmine for Prabowo during the 2014 presidential election where at the time Prabowo and Hatta Rajasa was a step ahead with 14,167,381 votes compared to the other candidate, Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla, who managed to get 9,530,315 votes in this region.
However, in 2014 Prabowo still managed to win 22 regions in the West Java elections where Prabowo received 59.78 percent votes compared to Jokowi’s 40.22 percent. Prabowo grabbed substantial voters from the District of Bogor compared to Jokowi’s 655,888 votes.
Prabowo topped the polls in other regions as well in 2014, such as Bandung District, Bekasi District, Sukabumi, Garut, and City of Bandung during the 2014 elections. While Jokowi at the time only won at four regions in Subang, Indramayu District, Cirebon District, and Cirebon City.
This is taking into consideration that the voter’s participation level in West Java during the 2014 presidential election reached 70.93 percent.
