Khofifah-Emil Preferred by Low Income Citizen Majority: Survey

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The candidate pair Khofifah-Emil won over Gus Ipul and Puti Soekarno in the income rate category in a survey conducted by Poltracking Indonesia prior to East Java Regional Head Election. The respondents were categorized based on their income rate of under Rp250,000, Rp500,000-Rp1 million, Rp1-2 million, and Rp5-10 million.
While the candidate pair Gus Ipul-Puti excelled in the group of respondents with income rate at Rp2-5 million. "Khofifah-Emil pair also won a majority cast in the social class category of voters," said Hanta, the executive director of Poltracking Indonesia at Sari Pan Pacific Hotel, Jakarta, Sunday, March 18.
The survey was conducted by doing in-depth interviews with 1,200 East Java residents who already had the right to vote by choosing one of the candidates. Poltracking had simulated the ballot on March 6-11, 2018.
The respondents were selected by a random method using stratified multistage random sampling. The margin of error was 2.8 percent at a confidence level of 95 percent. For the support maps of the candidate in tribe category, the margin of error was more than 2.8 percent.
As for the social class category, the variable was based on the levels of education, employment, and income rate. The 39-44 percent of respondents with elementary, junior high, and senior high school education and diploma voted for Khofifah-Emil pair, while Gus Ipul-Puti had 32-37 percent. From the category of employment, the respondents chose Khofifah-Emil pair were up to 38-53 percent while the rival gained 27-42 percent.
Based on the ethnic category, Poltracking Indonesia divided the survey to Javanese and Madurese tribes. Khofifah-Emil pair succeeded to attract in both ethnic subcategories 43.1 percent and 34.9 percent respectively. However, Gus Ipul-Puti pair received 53.5 percent of the other tribe population.
