TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho reported that two people were killed in the earthquake that hit southern Java. They lost their lives as their houses collapsed and struck them down.
"One victim in West Java and the other one in Central Java," he said on Saturday, Dec. 16.

In West Java, the earthquake hit Tasikmalaya, Pangandaran and Ciamis Regencies with the highest magnitude. "Six people were injured, 17 houses severely damaged, 59 houses had moderate damage and 10 houses had minor damage," Sutopo explained.
In addition to West Java, Sutopo added, Central Java also suffered from the impact of the quake. One person suffered serious injury, 26 houses torn down and six houses had moderate damage.
"The victim died since a fallen wall hit him," he said.
