TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian director Edwin has won Busan Award at the Asian Project Market in Busan, South Korea on October 9-11, 2016. He brought two projects Seperti Dendam (Vengeance Is Mine) and Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas (All Others Pay Cash) films, which were adapted from Eka Kurniawan’s novels. Eka Kurniawan himself penned the screenplay in the projects.
According to Edwin, Seperti Dendam and Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas film projects are his first collaboration with Eka Kurniawan. He said that Eka’s novels are very visual and the stories even have some vibe in them.
“The books are very full of knowledge and minesteries which shape our modern lives,” he said Wednesday in a written statement, October 12.
Seperti Dendam and Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas was brought to the Asian Project Market by Palari Films, who in the past 19 years have been consistently selecting film projects and touting them to investors from various countries.
This year, the Asian Project Market featured 27 film projects from 16 countries. A strict selection process ensured best artistic quality and diversity of theme of the films on offer. Blockbuster films, such as Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer, as well as unique films, such as Tsai Ming Liang’s Stray Dogs, can be realized as they met the right markets. Snowpiercer has become a success in Hollywod, whereas Stray Dogs has won Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival.
