TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On August 2 until August 4, 2016, Indonesia will host the 12th World Islamic Economic Forum summit, themed "Decentralizing Growth, Empowering Future Business". The summit is scheduled to be held at the Jakarta Convention Center.
"This is an honor for us. This is not only a governmental forum, but also a business [forum]," Andin Hadiyanto, expert staff for the macroeconomic and finance division at the Finance Ministry, said in a press release on Friday, July 29, 2016.
The forum will facilitate participating countries to engage in discussions of topics related to the promotion of Islamic economy system in boosting the global economy. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has been scheduled to open the summit that will be attended by 2,700 participants.
Andin added that several light topics would also be discussed in the forum, such as infrastructure financing.
"The topic of infrastructure financing will deliberate how the sharia financial system can be utilized effectively to finance various infrastructure projects," Andin said.
In addition, the summit will also discuss the possibility of developing the halal industry in a bid to strengthen economic ties among Islamic countries. Topics related to fashion and design industries will also be discussed, in which Indonesia has planned to build garment and Muslim wear industries.
