TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Administrator of Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road has prepared contraflow system to anticipate traffic congestion of the holiday return of 2016 Chinese New Year long weekend. “Today is the last day of the holiday,” said spokesperson of PT Jasa Marga Jakarta-Cikampek branch, Iwan Abrianto, Monday, February 8, 2016.
Iwan said that his agency has predicted the number of vehicle entering Jakarta from Bandung and Central Java would reach 96 thousand units. The prediction is an increase from normal traffic on weekdays of 82 thousand vehicles. “The traffic is predicted to start from afternoon until night,” said Iwan.
The contraflow point would be applied in Kilometer 65-50 since traffic congestion often occurred at the kilometers due to the meeting of Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) Toll Road and Cipularang Toll Road from Bandung. The contra-flow system is expected to avoid congestion as there is only one lane; the lane towards Cikampek will be used for vehicles heading to Jakarta.
In addition, Iwan said, his agency has also installed railings and put rubber cones at rest areas in Kilometer 62, 52, 42 and 34. The company also applied one way system (buka tutup) if rest areas are full. “Traffic engineering will be performed if Cikarang Utama Toll Gate is congested,” said Iwan.
For example, vehicles would be made to exit at Cikarang 4 Toll Gate with the same tariff as charged in Cikarang Utama Toll Gate then they would re-enter the toll road towards Jakarta via Cikarang Barat 2 Toll Gate. “Two Automatic Toll Gates (GTO) would also be used to receive cash payment,” he said.
Based on Tempo’s observation, traffic flow condition at Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road heading to Jakarta is still normal. The average speed is above 60 kilometer per hours. Traffic is dominated by private cars and buses.
