TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two terrorist suspects killed during the attack in front of Sarinah Plaza on Jalan Thamrin, Central Jakarta on Thursday, January 14, 2016, were claimed to be fugitives from similar radical action in the past, according to the Police. "We suspected that among five bodies suspected to be the perpetrators, two of them are fugitives of similar radical acts," said Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan, Head of Public Relation Division of the National Police Headquarter on Friday, January 15, 2016.
Chief of the National Police Gen. Badrodin Haiti said that one of the two fugitives is called Afif. Badrodin asserted that Afif had been arrested back in 2010 and was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. "We are still investigating how he could escape," Badrodin said.
Afif was the man wearing a black cap, black shirt, blue jeans, and carrying a red backpack shown in many of the photos circulated in the media. Afif is suspected to have received military training in Aceh.
The Police however, refused to reveal the identity of other suspects who died in the attack. Badrodin said that the Police is currently trying to identify the bodies of the suspects at the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati.
Afif and four other suspects were killed during the attack on Jalan Thamrin on Thursday, January 14, 206. The suspects set off explosive devices in front of the Starbucks cafe and a Police outpost, and shot several people.
