TEMPO.CO, Kupang - Some 400 laborers in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) along 2015 has been sacked unilateraly by entrepreneurs. They were sacked for various issues over wages and overtimes.
“This year, 300-400 laborers has been fired from their companies,” said Chairman of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation NTT Stanus Tefa told Tempo on Tuesday, Sept 1.
Because of that, laborers in NTT will not be marching down the streets today, like laborers in Java Island. How can we march down the streets if numerous workers have been fired,” said Stanis.
According to Stanis, his side prefers to negotiate with companies that has dismissed workers in order to fulfill their rights. “There’s no point in marching to the streets if there is no solution over the sacking of these workers,” said Stanis.
Those workers sacked includes lecturers in several universities, store workers and local companies, Flobamor. “Each company fired 10 workers,” he said.
Stanis said many reports of dismissals received should be resolved by means of negotiation. Therefore, he decided not to conduct a protest.
