TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) hoped that the government would give special attention to the micro, small and medium enterprises (SME) because this sector can save the country’s economy.
Indef Executive Director Enny Sri Hartati said that micro, small, and medium enterprises are the biggest sector that can move the country’s economy.
"Small, micro and medium enterprises can save our economy. It is the biggest sector in the country’s economy and it makes up 99 percent of the total economy,” she said in Jakarta on Saturday, August 29.
Enny further said that micro, small and medium enterprises can be the motor of the country’s economy because their dependence on foreign currencies, especially US Dollar is not really big.
