TEMPO.CO, Tangerang- The Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said on Thursday, August 27, the police needed two weeks to uncover the smuggling of 94 kilograms of crystal meth and 112,189 ecstasy pills by Guangzhou-Jakarta international drug smuggler.
Tito said under the guise of caustic soda, this drug syndicate tried to smuggle 94 kilograms of crystal meth worth Rp150 billion and thousands of ecstasy worth Rp56 billion. “This can save up to 378,000 young generations,” he said.
According to Tito, the existence of this syndicate shows that there is an active international network in Indonesia. “This shows that Jakarta is a region with potential for drug trafficking,” he said.
The uncovering of the smuggling began from customs officials’ suspicion towards the luggage of two Chinese nationals initialed UMCB and CSW who arrived at the airport’s D terminal on Sunday, August 9. They flew to Indonesia by Malaysia Airlines (MH-377) route Guangzhou-Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta.
The suspicion was proven when six kilograms of crystal meth wrapped in 10 plastics hidden in a suitcase were found after intensive investigation. Based on the findings, investigators from Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s Customs conducted control delivery technique on August 10-21.
