Malaysia Tightens Immigration Inspection on Indonesian workers

TEMPO.CO, Nunukan - Nunukan Head of Customs and Port Authority (KSOP), North Kalimantan province said Saturday, July 25, 2015, that the number of Indonesian migrant workers going home for Eid this year had dropped due to tightening immigration procedures in Malaysia.
Sumardi Manja, KSOP Head of Sailing Security Sub Section compared the number of homecomers in 2014 had reached 20,000 people, but this year the number was only at 14,000 people, most of whom originates from Sabah, Malaysia.
Most of Indonesian migrant workers in Sabah are illegal immigrants or travel without proper immigration documents, so usually they do not leave their workplace when the Malaysian authorities launch raids.
Some other workers with passports have their documents held by their employers to prevent them from leaving the company.
