TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is targeting to crunch the Gini ratio to 0.39 percent in 2016. In addition, poverty rate target is lowered to 9.0-10 percent, while open unemployment rate is pegged at 5.2-5.5 percent.
"The government will focus on social protection [programs] to increase the rate of economic equality," said Rahma Iryanty, deputy of poverty, employment, and small-medium enterprises division at the Ministry of National Development Planning.
For this year, the government aims to suppress the percentage of poor by 0.6 percent from the 11 percent.
This welfare equalization effort, Rahma said, is an attempt to prevent the poor from falling below the poverty line.
The government is also targeting for enhanced services in 11 regencies and cities that are Indonesia's poorest and most underdeveloped.
